Half the Dutch want elections next year

A slim majority of voters would like a general election next year, according to the latest Maurice de Hond opinion poll.

Some 38% think national elections should be held at the same time as the local government elections on March 3, while a further 15% think later in the year would be a good moment.
Around 44% are happy to wait until May 2011, when the next national vote is scheduled.
De Hond’s new poll shows the gap between Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration PVV and the Christian Democratic party is narrowing. The PVV is still the biggest party but down one seat at 28 while the CDA is up one seat at 26.
