Community service for racist texts

Amsterdam district court has sentenced a 43-year-old man to 120 hours of community service for writing discriminatory texts on the extreme right-wing website Stormfront, news agency ANP reports.

The man, operating under the pen name Cicero, wrote the texts about Jews and black people between 2006 and 2007.
A 37-year-old website moderator, known as Full of Pride, was found not guilty of failing to remove the posts. The court said there was no evidence the man had read the texts and that he could not be held responsible for all postings on the website
Stormfront is based in the US but has a Dutch sub-forum. The court dismissed the argument that Cicero could not be tried in the Netherlands because the website is American. The court said the texts were written in the Netherlands, in Dutch, and placed on the Dutch section of the site.
The investigation into Stormfront began in 2004 following complaints from the Israel documentation centre, ANP said.
