Building firm manager told to pay back €20m

A former senior manager at Ballast Nedam has been ordered to pay €20m back to the company by a court in Arnhem, the building firm claimed on Wednesday.

Ballast Nedam began civil proceedings against the former director and several others in an effort to claw back €65m it claims was obtained by fraud.
Former divisional chief Peter F was found guilty of one case of fraud last year, but was not punished by the Groningen court because it said the publicity surrounding the case was extremely damaging to him.
The fraud was discovered following a tax office tip-off, three years after F had retired.
Wednesday’s ruling is an interim judgement and the court has asked for more information, news agency ANP reported. A final ruling is due in several months.
