Amsterdammers back metro: council poll

Some 60% of the people of Amsterdam want the city council to finish the troubled new metro project, according to research by the council’s own research bureau O&S.

Some 19% think the council should pull the plug on the project.
When the new metro, which links Amsterdam Noord to the rest of the city, was given the go-ahead, the cost was put at €1.4bn. That has now soared to over €3.1bn because of numerous technical setbacks and other problems. The metro is now scheduled for completion in 2017, six years later than planned.
