Ajax, PSV, Heerenveen celebrate
There were victories for three of the four Dutch football clubs taking part in this year’s Europa League competition on Thursday night.
Amsterdam’s Ajax beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 at home, in a match marred by supporter violence in the city centre. Ajax is now joint leader in group A with Anderlecht.
PSV Eindhoven scored a crucial 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen, after Jonathaan Reis missed a penalty in the first half.
According to the Telegraaf, only 16,000 fans turned up to watch the game, blaming high ticket prices. PSV now leads group K with seven points from three matches.
Frisian side Heerenveen snatched a 1-0 away victory against Hertha of Berlin. The northern side now has four points.
But FC Twente’s 17 match unbeaten record was ended by Moldovan title holders Sherrif, which won 2-0 at home.
