PVV MP acknowledges drink problem
Hero Brinkman, an MP for the anti-immigration PVV party, has acknowledged he has a drink problem and pledged to take steps to deal with it.
Brinkman allegedly hit a barman who refused to serve him more drinks at a bar at the parliamentary press centre in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Brinkman has denied hitting the barman but has not given his side of the story, the NRC reports on Thursday afternoon.
A former policeman, Brinkman is the party’s spokesman on home affairs – which includes law and order. The PVV has called for mandatory 12-month jail terms for people convicted of public violence.
Party leader Geert Wilders was unavailable for comment, the NRC said.
