Economy shrank 5.4% in second quarter

The Dutch economy shrank 5.4% in the second quarter of this year, slightly above earlier estimates, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.

In particular, the downturn in the temporary employment sector was more significant than had been expected, the CBS said. The building sector has also been more severely affected.
In August, the CBS put the economic contraction at 5.1% year on year.
The number of jobs in the Dutch economy is now 72,000 down on a year ago at 7.9 million, the CBS said.
