Council pays back excess budget to locals
People living in the district of Haarlemmermeer near Schiphol airport are to get a €110 rebate from their local council because it has a budget surplus of €6m, the Telegraaf reports.
Council executive Jeroen Nobel told the paper the council had had a number of unexpected financial windfalls last year.
‘So we are choosing the pay this ‘bonus’ back to residents, considering these are difficult financial times,’ he was quoted as saying.
