Schiphol no longer in airport top 10: FD

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport has fallen from ninth to 14th position in the international airport council’s ranking of the world’s busiest airports, the Financieele Dagblad says on Tuesday.

The paper says its own analysis of ACI figures also show the ranking’s previous number 10, Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, has climbed into fifth place.
Schiphol has focused on building up its position as a transfer hub but this position is under threat because of increasing consolidation in the air traffic market and liberalisation, the paper says.
A spokesman for the airport group said Schiphol aims for selective growth and is not concerned about remaining in the top 10. ‘More important is the quality and maintaining the network,’ the spokesman said. ‘This is how we can keep and strengthen international accessibility to the Netherlands.’
