Russian team sacks Dutch trainer Advocaat

Dutch trainer Dick Advocaat has been sacked by Zenit St Petersburg, according to various media reports quoting the Russian football club’s website on Monday.

Advocaat is due to leave the club and start his new job as coach for the Belgian national team at the end on January 1.
‘Unfortunately, since Advocaat decided to become national coach for Belgium, [Zenit’s] results have clearly gone down,’ the Russian team’s management is quoted as saying on its website.
The management and supporters are ‘disappointed’, the website adds. Zenit is currently seventh in the Russian competition.
According to football commentators, a conflict between Advocaat and the newly appointed sport director of Zenit, Igor Kornejev, may also have played a role in the early departure of the Dutchman.
Zenit won the Russian national title (2007) and the UEFA Cup (2008) under Advocaat who has also coached the national teams of the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and South Korea.
