Holland wins European dressage title
The Netherlands took gold at the European dressage championships in Britain on Wednesday with a record-breaking score. It was the team’s second victory in the event in a row.
Edward Gal, last of the four Dutch riders took the highest ever score in the event on his horse Totilas.
‘I knew we had team gold but I wanted to ride as well as I could for the horse and I think I did,’ Gal told the competition’s official website. ‘When I went into the arena he felt the atmosphere and was a little tense. After the walk I looked up and saw my score – it was good – and I was able to relax for the rest of the test.’
Gal is now firm favourite to take the individual dressage title.
