‘Government is ignoring website security’
Unlike the business community, the government has failed to take action to ensure its websites are adequately protected from hackers, says internet security firm Networking4all in a statement on Thursday.
Earlier this week the government dismissed claims by the firm that 80% of the government’s 684 websites are unsafe. Networking4all released its figures just as the government launched a campaign to encourage the public to be aware of security issues when using the internet.
In its statement today, Networking4all says that its report into the safety of commercial websites at the beginning of the year was taken seriously by the business sector but that the same cannot be said of the government.
‘Now that it has been proved that government websites are not safe, the government is claiming that there’s nothing to worry about,’ says Paul van Brouwershaven of Networking4all.
