Tourists in the Netherlands spent a total of €1bn in the first three months of this year, a 17% reduction on the year-earlier period, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.


By contrast, Dutch tourists €1.7bn spent abroad in the first three months of this year, a 4% increase on 2008.
Spanish tourists have reduced their spending the most – 28%, says the CBS. British tourists spent 19% less and Swiss visitors 15%.
