Single person households set to soar

The Netherlands will have 3.6 million single person households in 40 years time, with the over-65s accounting for much of the growth, says the national statistics office CBS in its latest population growth prognoses.

By 2040, some 44% of households will consist of just one person. At the moment, they account for around 33%.
While there will be an increase of single-parent families to around 500,000 by 2050, they will still account for just 6% of all households, the CBS said.
