Shops sell less in May

Shops in the Netherlands booked a 9% downturn in sales in May, compared with May 2008, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.

Prices were down just 0.6%, due to a reduction in petrol prices.
The downturn in retail sales is the sharpest since records begain in 2000. Shops selling clothes and household goods were particularly hard hit.
