Dutch reporter arrested in Urumqi
A reporter for the Dutch regional news agency GDP was arrested in the Chinese city of Urumqi on Friday morning.
The authorities say Remko Tanis was in place where he was not allowed to go and had broken the evening curfew.
Tanis, who is based in Shanghai, had gone to Urumqi to report on the disturbances involving Muslim Uighurs and ethnic Han Chinese.
GPD’s foreign editor Maurice Wilbrink said Tanis, a Japanese and a Spanish reporter were being held at the main police station.
