Transport smart card fare-dodger friendly
The new public transport smart card which is replacing paper tickets on buses, trams and trains makes it easy to dodge fare-paying, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.
Bus companies are concerned that it is too easy to swipe the chip card past an exit reader immediately after boarding, meaning passengers can travel for free, the paper says.
Inspectors can check whether passengers have paid using special portable readers, but they are being phased out to pay for the introduction of the new system, the paper points out.
A transport ministry spokesman said the bus companies’ concerns were known.
