Satnav maker TomTom sees losses widen
TomTom posted a loss of €33m in the first three months of this year, compared with a loss of €23m in the same period in 2008, the satellite navigations system maker said in a statement on Wednesday.
The loss is largely due to the takeover of digital map maker TeleAtlas, which has never made a profit, Nos tv said.
But the sale of satnav systems also fell sharply – from 1.4 million in the first quarter of 2008 to 600,000 between January and March this year. Total revenue was down 31% year on year to €213m.
TomTom’s share price has fallen by 80% over the past year and the company now risks running into trouble with its financial backers, Nos said.
