Police cars often involved in accidents

Ten police officers and one ordinary citizen were killed in accidents involving police cars between 2005 and 2007, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

A further 440 citizens and 43 police officers were injured and the total damages bill reached €46m, the paper says. The paper used freedom of information legislation (WOB) to get the figures.
Home affairs minister Guusje ter Horst said earlier that all police corps will have to offer driving skills training from 2010.
At the end of 2007, the police had 9,838 cars, 1,829 vans and 1,487 motorbikes at their disposal, the paper says.
