Palestinian cannot collect Dutch award
The Israeli high court ruled on Tuesday that the country’s secret service has adequate reason to prevent the Palestinian Shawan Jabarin from travelling to the Netherlands to collect a prestigious human rights award.
Jabarin, who heads the Palestinian human rights organisation Al Haq, was due to be presented with the Geuzenpenning medal on Friday by the mayor of The Hague, Jozias van Aartsen.
Earlier efforts by the Dutch foreign affairs minister to get the travel ban overturned also failed.
The Israelis say Jabarin is a member of the banned People’s Front for the Freedom of Palestine, a claim he himself denies, says Nos.
