The anonymous crime hotline Meld Misdaad Anoniem received some 76,600 calls last year resulting in 710 crimes being solved and the arrest of 1,100 suspects.

The value of cash and goods seized after a tip-off doubled in 2008 to €1.7m.
The most tips in 2008 were drug-related, says the independent foundation which runs the call centre and works with the police.
The hotline also helped solve a number of serious crimes including the rape of a nine-year-old girl and the murder of a 23-year-old woman.
