Gas sales topped €10bn in 2008

The Netherlands earned more than €10bn from natural gas sales last year, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

Gas exports were over 58 billion cubic metres, an 11% increase on 2007 and the biggest volume since the massive Slochteren gas reserves in the north of the country were discovered in 1959.
The increase is largely due to extra exports to Britain, following the construction of a new pipe-line.
Exports to Belgium and Germany were also up, the national statistics office CBS said.
