Volkswagen was the best selling car brand in the Netherlands last year for the fourth year in a row, the AD reports on Friday.

However, sales were down 7.8% compared with 2007. Ford was the second most popular brand with Opel in third place. Opel was the best selling brand in the Netherlands between 1969 and 2004, the paper said.
Top selling car was the Volkswagen Golf, followed by the Peugeot 207 and Opel Corsa.
The main losers were Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, Saab and Kia, the paper quoted research by Aumacon as saying.
