Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner irritated MPs by cheering the fact that ‘our Shani Davis’ had become world sprint skating champion, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

Davis is American and sponsored by Donner’s ministry. The highest-placed Dutch skater was Simon Kuipers, who took bronze.
The aim of the sponsorship is to increase awareness of the merger between the state-run job and benefit centres under the new name Werkbedrijf. A majority of MPs are opposed to the sponsorship deal, the Telegraaf says
