‘Young people must be given job or training’

Junior social affairs minister Ahmed Aboutaleb wants to force local councils to offer young people up to the age of 27 who apply for welfare payments either a job or training within two months, reports ANP news agency.

He claims half of the young people who apply for social security are still waiting for work or training six months after signing on with the council.
But councils are critical of Aboutaleb’s plans, fearing youngsters will no longer apply for welfare and turn to crime instead.
