No-resuss policy needed better handling
The Amersfoort care home that introduced a policy of not resuscitating the over-70s unless they specifically requested could have handled the matter more carefully, the health inspectorate ICZ said on Thursday.
For example, the home should have informed its residents in detail instead of suggesting that resuscitation is no use for over-70s, the IGZ said in a statement.
The home’s ‘no unless’ policy is unusual, but not necessarily wrong, the IGZ said. The matter caused a political outcry last week.
