Girls to get cervical cancer vaccination
All 12-year-old girls will be vaccinated against cervical cancer from September 2009, health minister Ab Klink announced on Tuesday.
The minister wants the HPV vaccine to be included in the national vaccination programme so it will be free to everyone, reports the Telegraaf. Klink also wants to run a ‘catch up’ programme to vaccinate girls between 13 and 16 years of age.
The decision is in line with recommendations made by the government’s health advisory council. Klink was originally doubtful about the annual cost of of €30m.
