Justice ministry officials kept the cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot in a police cell overnight because they were concerned he might destroy evidence, justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin told MPs on Thursday.
Nevertheless, it was wrong that the cartoonist, who faces charges of inciting racial hatred, was held for so long, the minister said.
