Eight guilty of bullying Liberian family

Eight youths aged 14 to 22 were on Thursday given community service of 40 to 120 hours for their role in bullying a Liberian refugee family in the village of Waspik, south-east of Rotterdam.

Two of the group were also found guilty of making violent threats against the family. Three youths were found not guilty.
The family fled the village last year after being subjected to repeated racist abuse. Eggs were thrown at their home, the words ‘monkey’ and ‘ape’ were chanted at them and the children became too scared to use public transport.
The eight youths have also been ordered to go on a special course focusing on the victims of discrimination.
