Christian towns move Remembrance Day
Three Dutch towns which are dominated by fundamentalist Christian groupings are not marking Remembrance Day or holding a two-minute silence on May 4 because it is a Sunday.
‘We do not want to insult people because Sunday is a day of rest,’ Staphorst mayor Joop Alssema said.
Instead, the ceremonies to remember the dead of two World Wars will be held on Saturday.
