Dutch would join Palestine peace-keepers

Foreign affairs minister Maxime Verhagen says he will do his utmost to ensure that Dutch soldiers are included in any international force needed to fill the vacuum left by Israeli soldiers if there is an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

He made the remark during a speech on Monday evening at the prestigious Herzliya conference in Israel during a four-day visit to the Middle East.
Verhagen also called on Israel to reopen the Gaza Strip borders for exports to improve the Palestinian economy, reports ANP news service.
While accepting that Israel must take measures to ensure the safety of its people, Verhagen emphasised these should be proportional. ‘Frustration and anger can form a fertile breeding ground for radicalism,’ he said.
On Wednesday Verhagen travels to Syria.
