Dutch double in European skating titles

Sven Kramer (21) has retained his European all-round skating title, winning over three of the four distances in Kolomna, Russia at the weekend.

His aim to take all four distances was thwarted by Russia’s Yevgeni Lalenkov who won the 1,500m.
In the women’s event Ireen Wüst (21) took the title, with teammate Paulien van Deutekom winning the silver. Wüst was second last year.
It is the first time since 1999 that the Dutch have taken both the men’s and women’s European all-round titles.
The men’s all-round title consists of races at 500m, 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m; the women’s competition involves the 500m, 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m.
