New probe into Schiphol fire

There is to be a new investigation into the cause of the Schiphol detention centre fire in which 11 people died in 2005, reports public broadcaster NOS on Tuesday.

Lawyers representing the Libyan man found guilty of starting the fire requested the new investigation which the Amsterdam court has granted today.
The Libyan, who denies arson but admits it was his cigarette that caused the blaze, has been released jail pending the outcome of the new inquiry. He was sentenced to three years in June this year.
