Building fraud whistleblower ‘no regrets’
Ad Bos – the man who blew the whistle on widespread corruption and price-fixing in the construction sector in 2001 – has lost everything and now lives in a camper van, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.
The van is parked not far from his old villa, complete with underground garage, which was sold to pay his legal fees. ‘I am not bitter. I would do it again… I am not sorry,’ Bos tells the paper.
Now Bos faces eviction from the lane where the camper is parked. The neighbours have launched a petition to have him removed. ‘I know how an asylum seeker feels: hunted,’ say his wife Joke.
The construction sector has now recovered from the scandal but Bos still faces three legal cases, has had a heart attack and lost his home, the paper says.
‘They don’t like whistleblowers in the Netherlands,’ Bos says. ‘They want to know everything, but once they know it, they drop you like a stone.’
