Record fall in consumer confidence

Dutch confidence in the economy fell sharply in September, taking the confidence index from +15 to -1, the biggest drop ever recorded.

‘In just one month, there has been a complete reversal of opinion over the economic situation for the next 12 months,’ the national statistics office CBS said.
Consumers are also less willing to make major purchases, but that decline is not as serious, the CBS said.
Manufacturers, by contrast, are still optimistic, with levels virtually unchanged from August.
