One gold, one silver at European hockey

The Dutch men’s team beat Spain 3-2 to take the European hockey title in Manchester, England on Sunday.

Penalty corner specialist Taeke Taekema made a total of 16 goals during the tournament, one fewer than record holder Floris-Jan Bovelander who made 17 in the 1991 competition.
The women’s team, who were hot favourites, lost their final 2-0 to Germany. It is the first time that Germany, the current Olympic champions, have taken the European title.
