The knee-jerk reaction of anti-immigration party leader Geert Wilders when anyone mentions Islam and culture in the same breath is not only racist but becoming increasingly boring.

Today he’s calling for the resignation of a minister because she says things about Islam that he doesn’t like – how very predictable. He seems to call on someone to resign at least once a week.
So what exactly did immigration minister Ella Vogelaar say in her now-infamous Trouw interview? That in the future, the Netherlands will be a country of Christian, Jewish and Islamic traditions.
Considering some one million of the 16 million population has a Muslim heritage, she is probably right.
The way Wilders and his sort go on about the Netherlands’ great Christian-Jewish culture makes you think the Jews were welcomed with open arms when they began arriving in the 15th century.
Which of course they were not. They faced discrimination and racism in employment, housing and education. Centuries later, the Netherlands showed just how it valued its Judaic traditions by allowing most of its Jews to be deported to the Nazi death camps.
Wilders can rant and rave as much as he likes, but Islam is not going to go away. And most people, whoever their god is, just want to get on with their lives in peace.
