Wijffels ends coalition formation role

Herman Wijffels, the man who has been in charge of the government coalition negotiations, is to formally present his report on the talks to Queen Beatrix today, reports NOS. This marks the end of Wijffels’ duties as informateur.

The next step is for the queen to appoint a formateur to put together a new cabinet. This will almost certainly be Christian Democrat (CDA) leader Jan Pieter Balkenende who has said he wants to have his cabinet ready within two weeks.
The new government (CDA, Labour and ChristianUnie) will be the fourth to be led by Balkenende.
