Mayor criticises new cabinet on gay rights
Amsterdam Mayor Job Cohen has criticised the new government for allowing civil servants who object to gay marriage to refuse to marry same-sex couples. ‘It is a shame, to put it mildly,’ Cohen said. ‘I think they should follow the rule of law.’
Cohen was speaking at the unveiling of a plaque to mark the first gay marriage in the Netherlands on April 1, 2001.
