Bigger safety council budget urged
The new cabinet must increase the budget of the Safety Investigation Council says its chairman Pieter van Vollenhoven. He says that the work of the body, which is currently looking into child abuse, is being hindered by a lack of funds.
The Council currently has an annual budget of €9m and 50 staff. Last year two cabinet ministers resigned after Van Vollenhoven published a damning report into a fire at the Schiphol detention centre in which 11 people died.
