Bank debts up 7% in 2006
Dutch households borrowed a total of €9.7bn in consumer loans last year, dipping under €10bn for the first time since 1998.
But bank accounts slipped deeper into the red, with bank debts totalling €8bn, an increase of 7% on 2005, the national statistics office CBS said. Borrowing via credit cards was also more popular, rising 4% to €3.2bn.
