De Vlieger faces prosecution

The Public Prosecution Department (OM) is to take legal action against former media and construction magnate Erik de Vlieger for blackmail and threatening behaviour, ANP reports. A café owner on Amsterdam’s Leidseplein has accused De Vlieger and several others of forcing him to give up his business. .


De Vlieger was arrested in connection with the case, code-named ‘Madras’, in January 2005. He denies the charges.
Last year, a 40-year-old Israeli, Itzhak Meiri, was sentenced to eight years in jail for blackmailing De Vlieger. De Vlieger denied he was being blackmailed
