Two people have been arrested during the visit by French president Emmanuel Macron to the University of Amsterdam’s science park.

The two ran out of as building as the president got out of his car singing the protest song On est là (we are here), which is a fixture in the current wave of protests in France.

The two did not get close to the president or king Willem-Alexander who was accompanying Macron and both were carried away by police.

Macron is in the Netherlands for a two-day state visit. On Tuesday night, a speech on Europe which he gave in The Hague was also disrupted for a short time by protestors.

France is in the grip of a wave of protests about Macron’s plans to reform the pension system.
