Parking in city centres has gone up in price again this year with drivers paying up to €10 per hour in some car parks in central Amsterdam, according to research by a parking information website.

Street parking in the centre of Amsterdam is also the most expensive in the country, with a charge of €7.50 per hour. Next in the ranking are Utrecht (€6.64) and The Hague (€5.80). In Rotterdam parking fees have risen 30% over the past year to an average of €5.50.

Over the past five years, parking charges have risen by 29% in the biggest 22 cities but The Hague tops the lot, by putting up parking fees by 141% since 2018, website parkerenindestad.nl said.

More cities are also introducing day tickets which replace parking per hour and average €23.20 per day. Leiden, Amstelveen, Alkmaar, Delft, Dordrecht, Deventer and Tilburg are among the cities which have made day tickets compulsory for everyone without a regular parking permit.
