Feyenoord retain a two-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie after they staged a late comeback to deny PSV victory in the top-of-the-table clash in De Kuip.

The visitors took an early lead when Orkun Kökçü gave the ball away in midfield, Joey Veerman released Xavi Simons with a one-touch pass and the teenager’s layoff was smashed in by Anwar El Ghazi.

PSV were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half when Armando Obispo was dismissed for lashing out at Santiago Jimenez, but three minutes later they extended their lead when new loan signing Thorgan Hazard cut in from the left and fired home.

A header by Alireza Jahanbakhsh nine minutes from time set up a frantic finish, and in the sixth minute of injury time the Iranian striker equalised with a shot from the edge of the area that squeezed between Walter Benitez’s hand and the post.

The result allowed Ajax to overtake PSV in third place and move to within three points of the leaders after cruising to a 5-0 win at Cambuur. Dusan Tadic opened the scoring after 16 minutes, while Steven Berghuis and Brian Brobbey each found the net twice.

AZ, Twente draw

AZ missed the chance to go top of the table on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Volendam. The home side took the lead when Xavier Mbuyamba headed in Carel Eiting’s free-kick after 62 minutes, but seven minutes from time a stray header landed at the feet of Jens Odgaard, who curled in an equaliser.

Fifth-placed Twente took an early lead against bottom side Groningen when Sem Steijn hit a low shot into the corner, but a smart volley by Oliver Antman in the second half earned the northerners their first point in eight matches.

Go Ahead Eagles ended a run of three straight defeats as Finn Stokkers scored the only goal against NEC, profiting from some fine build-up work and a sleight-of-hand assist by Isac Lidberg.

Utrecht were the only other winners of the weekend, beating Heerenveen with a penalty by the league’s top scorer Anastasios Douvikas after Othman Boussaid was brought down on the edge of the area.

Vitesse looked to be on their way to taking all three points at Emmen after Million Manhoef and Carlens Arcus both beat Mickey van der Hart at his near post. But the Drenthe side pulled one back just before the break when Jasin-Amin Assehnoun tucked away a rebound, and claimed a point thanks to Dominik Oroz’s own goal three minutes from the end.

Sparta extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with a goalless draw at Fortuna, while Excelsior and RKC Waalwijk were also unable to find a winner despite hitting the woodwork three times.
