The shortage of teachers at Dutch schools has increased again, with one in 10 primary school jobs currently unfilled, according to new figures from the education ministry.
The need to fill the gaps remains extremely high, ministers said on Tuesday.
Primary schools are currently looking to recruit 9,700 full time teachers, up 600 on a year ago. In secondary schools, ministers say the shortfall will reach over 2,100 within five years.
The situation is particularly bad in the four big cities and Almere, where 15.2% of primary school vacancies are unfilled.
The shortages cut across all school types but are highest in special needs education, the report said.
