Dutch children’s television programme Kabam has won the 2022 International Emmy for Kids: Live Action.

Kabam, produced by IJswater Films and public broadcaster KRO-NRCV, focuses on recognisable children’s fears and shows how they use their rich fantasies to conquer them.

The 10-part series is based around children in group 3, led by teacher meester Mo. The first episode, for example, focuses on Yona, who is worried she won’t make any friends on her first day at school. Luckily an old tree in the playground offers a helping hand.

Other episodes focus on a scary lift, going to the hairdresser, walking past a big dog (who turns into a super hero) and swimming underwater.

The series, the only Dutch entry at the Emmys, was directed by Elisabeth Hesemans. Lilian Sijbesma and Floor Paul wrote the script.
