This year’s Prins Bernhard Fonds culture prize has been awarded to the Anne Frank foundation in Amsterdam which runs what the fund called ‘one of the most important cultural heritage landmarks in the Netherlands’.

The €100,000 in prize money will be used to develop a special audio tour of the house where Anne Frank went into hiding for children and youngsters in nine languages.

Fund director Cathelijne Broers, said the foundation is a ‘wonderful and deserved winner’.

‘For decades, this foundation has been bringing the life story and ideas of Anne Frank to the attention of the world in a creative and inspiring way,’ she said.

‘Using digital and educational solutions, the fund points out the dangers of anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination, while at the same time highlighting the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy.’
