Mark Rutte’s fourth cabinet merits a score of no higher than 3.3 out of 10 and can count on the support of just 15% of the population, according to members of the Een Vandaag online panel.

Een Vandaag publishes the cabinet’s report card September, ahead of Prinsjesdag, when the government publishes its spending plans for the following year.

In total, two-thirds of the panel’s members say the government should resign and call new elections within a year. Just 16% expect the cabinet to last the full four years.

The childcare benefit scandal, the refugee and housing crises, spending power problems and the nitrogen pollution issue are among the reasons most often cited for the lack of faith in government.

Support for the government has only once been this low since the panel was set up in 2007. In 2013 backing for ministers slumped to 15% as the government brought in major spending cuts.

Education minister Robbert Dijkgraaf is the most popular minister and can count on the support of 42% of the EenVandaag panel members. Health minister Ernst Kuipers is next on the list of ministers people have most confidence in, followed by justice minister Dilan Yesilgöz.
