The hourly wages payable via staffing platforms such as Temper and Youbahn are rising, particularly in the hospitality sector, the Financieele Dagblad reported on Friday.
Youbahn, for example, which has some 40,000 temporary employees on its books, is now offering wages of €14.50 per hour for bar staff, up 20% on the beginning of the year. Pay rates offered for cleaning and care jobs have also gone up by between 4% and 8%, the FD said.
Freelancer agency Temper, with 200,000 registered temps, has also reported a rise in wages, with serving staff now earning 16% more than they did in January. The hourly rate for bar work has also risen 9%.
The hospitality sector in particular is suffering from a shortage of staff and the wage increase is making it more likely vacancies will be filled, Youbahn chief executive Ard Huininga told the paper. In January, just 12.5% of bar work jobs offered through the platform were filled, but that has now risen to 42%.
Wages for temps are now rising fast than for those in regular jobs, which could lead to more pressure on employers when negotiating sector-wide deals for permanent staff, the paper said.
